Abstract

The treatment of Arabidopsis thaliana suspension cell culture with an inhibitor of respiratory complex III antimycin A or with an inhibitor of respiratory complex IV potassium cyanide led to a rapid increase of transcript content of gdh2 gene encoding alpha-subunit of glutamate dehydrogenase. Inhibition of complex I upon the addition of rotenone had no influence on the transcript level. We suggest that gdh2 expression responds to changes of the state of specific respiratory chain regions. We showed that protein phosphorylation is essential component of signal transduction into nucleus leading to gdh2 expression induction.
