Multidrug resistance of different genetic families of M. tuberculosis in patients with tuberculosis of the Irkutsk region (Eastern Siberia)

Abstract

We investigated 140 strains of M. tuberculosis, isolated from patients with pulmonary tuberculosis in the Irkutsk region. The association of mycobacterial genotype, the clinical course of disease and antibiotic resistance of strains were studied. As a result of MIRU-VNTR-analysis, based on PCR amplification of tandem repeats of 12 micobacteria DNA loci and by identifying the deletion polymorphism in the genome of Mycobacterium (large sequence polymorphisms - LSPs) in 207 region 88 % of the isolates were identified, a significant proportion of which is classified as epidemiologically significant Beijing family and is associated with multidrug resistance (MDR). 11 subtypes of this family were founded two thirds of founded subtypes were common M2 and M11 strains of Beijing genotype. The primary drug resistance patterns varied significantly between Beijing and non-Beijing strains. High level of drug resistance was revealed among Beijing strains.
