Verification of the method of multilocus probing of tick-borne encephalitis virus genome for genetic distances determination with the help of computer simulation

Abstract

Multilocus hybridization probing in biochips performance in the last decade has been being used for pathogens genodiagnostics of many viral infections. In this paper we propose a measure of genetic distance, calculated on the basis of multilocus genetic probing. With the help of computer simulation we show the boundaries of applicability of the hybridization tests in the evaluation of genetic distances. It was established that at certain time period of independent existence of two virus strains, the genetic distance, estimated by using hybridization test increases linearly. It is shown that to obtain adequate results in the hybridization test you must use at least 25 probes. The possibility of application of the developed measures of genetic distances in populational, evolutionary and epidemiological studies of different viruses is discussed.
