Abstract
The article defines the mission and functions of modern botanic gardens not only as a traditionally narrow educational and research tools but as a complex of environmental resources and strictly protected territories in a system of management of natural and cultural heritage and natural resources in connection with the regional priorities of environmental protection and development in the Lake Baikal region.
