Integration of foreign DNA into the plant mitochondrial genome

Abstract
We previously demonstrated that isolated plant mitochondria can actively import and retain doublestranded small (<10 kb) size DNA through sequence unspecific DNA uptake. On the base of this phenomenon we develop the system to stably transform plant mitochondrial genome. Here we present the evidence for the integration of foreign imported DNA into the potato mitochondrial genome through homologous recombination.
