Molecular ecological studies of baikal oligochaete populations

Abstract
The history of changes in population abundance of benthic organisms of the Lake Baikal was for the first time studied from the moment of its origin till present. We have received data on time and mode of drastic changes of two oligochaete populations. The Southern Baikal population is of a moderate size and has a negative growth rate. The oligochaete population from strait Olkhon Gates is 4.6 times higher reveals a significant positive growth trend at present.
