This article focuses on the issue of integrated conservation of Shaitan-Tau State Reserve ecosystems in connection with the inadequate protection coverage of the habitats that are characteristic for the area. Shaitan-Tau Reserve is located in the mountainous steppe-forest biome of the Southern Urals. The reserve boundaries changed many times during their development phase and eventually the area included mostly forest land. Research of the Reserve biodiversity showed that protection of forest and steppe areas is required to save both typical and rare representatives of the biota. Having a high biological diversity and significant share in the flora and fauna of rare and endangered species, Shaitan-Tau Reserve as may be supposed is not sufficiently effective form of protection in its existing limits.
